Majestic Bald Eagle Migration - JANUARYDate:
Each year from December through February, hundreds of bald eagles travel south along the Mississippi River right at Nauvoo! Watch them sweep down to fish where the icy river is open and nest along the frozen river banks. The birds migrate to the Keokuk dam (15 minutes from Nauvoo) because of its open waters and easy fishing. Last year's migration saw between 400-500 eagles! Many other birds also gather along the river during this time of year - so if you're a Boy Scout wanting to earn your "Bird Study" merit badge or a loyal Twitcher - this is a fantastic time to visit.
